Tutoring Experience

My main area of focus is university admissions in the social sciences (500 hours). I have helped students with course selection, university choice, PS & CV drafting, editing, interview preparation and written sample preparation.

I have 400 hours of tutoring experience in social sciences subjects, Italian, French and English as a Foreign Language.

I supported students from different nationalities aged 14 to 24. I also possess teaching experience in a university setting, where I marked essays of undergraduate students in public policy, political economy and international relations. Throughout the years, I have helped a student improve his grades in English, as well as their study, organizational skills.

Their GPA increased from 6/10 to 9/10. I have also designed Italian classes to help a Cambridge student to prepare for his Mphil at Oxford. Finally, I have helped a student receive Master offers from King’s College London and LSE.

Tutoring Approach

Oxbridge & Russel Group University Undergraduate and Postgraduate Admissions (Social Sciences): I design lessons materials based on a consultation with the student regarding their current situation, objectives, and specific challenges. I design a PowerPoint for each lesson focused on a university admissions topic: subject choice, drafting a personal statement, CV and the interview process for Oxbridge applications. I include guidelines on the structure and content for a personal statement. In the PowerPoint I also review the student’s personal statement draft according to these guidelines and in terms of language. To prepare for the Oxbridge interview process I design a PowerPoint which provides guidelines on the technique necessary to answer the main interview questions (brainteasers, motivation questions, competency questions, questions based on subject knowledge). I also give advice to the student on how to organise their independent preparation. Finally, I include suggestions for further reading that could help preparing for the interview.

Business Studies, Politics, Economics: I initially have a consultation with the student regarding their current academic performance, objectives, and specific challenges. I design a PowerPoint covering a specific topic or theme agreed during the consultation. I also design revision PowerPoints based on past-papers, providing a model answer for each question. Finally, I also organise targeted lessons looking at a particularly challenging area for a student. For instance, if they find essay-based questions particularly difficult I can design a PowerPoint analysing a model essay answer in depth.

Italian & French: I design a PowerPoint and list of activities either focused either on one or multiple linguistic competencies (writing, reading, listening, speaking), depending on the needs of the student. In Revision PowerPoints I provide information on exam technique, key vocabulary for essay-based questions writing, and the most difficult/recurrent grammar points in the exams as well as many practice questions.
In all my lessons I strive to create a supportive and welcoming environment and I am flexible with the lesson’s times. For all my lessons I am happy to set and mark homework.
