Tutoring Experience

Throughout my academic journey, I've had the privilege of learning from exceptional teachers at some of the world's most prestigious institutions. At Washington University, I had the honor of being taught by two Nobel laureates, Douglass North and Philip Dybvig. Even during my high school years, I was guided by outstanding math educators who not only excelled as mathematicians but also as communicators. Their emphasis on conceptual clarity, logical thinking, and rigorous learning, coupled with a personal touch of patience, laid the foundation for my educational philosophy. They instilled in me the value of language and logic as essential tools for comprehension.

My path as an educator began during my freshman year at Washington University, where I served as a Calculus Tutor. Fueled by strong academic achievements in mathematics and exceptional scores on standardized tests such as the SAT and math subject tests, I was selected as a peer tutor. Over the course of my four years at university, I successfully guided numerous students from failing grades to Bs and As in calculus.

Drawing from the effective teaching principles of my mentors, I've crafted my own approach to facilitating learning. This approach focuses on developing students' language to accurately articulate variables and their relationships, encouraging exploration of the underlying logic, and conducting concept drills and past examinations to bolster speed and confidence for high exam performance.

My academic accomplishments include earning A* grades in O and A levels mathematics, as well as achieving outstanding scores on U.S. university admission tests, including SAT math (790/800), Math Level I Subject Test (780/800), and Math Level II Subject Test (800/800).

Throughout my decade-long tutoring career, I've celebrated significant successes, including guiding students to achieve level 7s in DP Maths HL and SL, inspiring high school students to pursue advanced math studies at the university level, assisting a student in achieving a near-perfect score of 24/25 in DP Business Management Internal Assessment (IA), and mentoring struggling students to excel in math exams. Additionally, I've provided comprehensive preparation for competition math exams and standardized tests, including the SAT and Math subject tests.

Tutoring Approach

My tutoring style combines understanding the basics with practicing problem-solving, making learning thorough and effective. I start by assessing where the student stands and then we set realistic goals together. During our sessions, I create a supportive environment, helping students navigate through tricky topics while boosting their confidence.

I strongly believe in open communication and encourage students to ask questions. This helps deepen their understanding and critical thinking skills. Each session is tailored to fit the student's needs and learning style, ensuring an engaging and productive experience.

Beyond just teaching content, I focus on empowering students. I want them to feel confident in their abilities and equipped to tackle challenges on their own. By taking ownership of their learning, students develop skills that go beyond the subject matter, fostering a lifelong love for learning and exploration.
