Tutoring Experience
As a Mechanical Engineer, my journey into tutoring began during college, where I worked with the STEM department, tutoring small groups of 5-10 students in Calculus and Statistics. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with students across various grade levels. I have also received specialized training from SAT/ACT experts, equipping me with effective test-taking strategies to help students excel in these exams. For the past two years, I’ve taught abroad at American schools, gaining exposure to diverse educational approaches like IB, Montessori, and Project-Based Learning. Currently, I tutor a wide range of STEM-related courses, including AP Mathematics, Physic and IB Mathematics, as well as the ACT and SAT admissions.
Tutoring Approach
My tutoring approach begins with personalized communication. Before the first lesson, I reach out to the student to introduce myself and learn more about their goals and the specific areas they would like to focus on. This initial conversation helps me identify their strengths, weaknesses, and areas of concern so that I can tailor my lessons to meet their individual needs. I create a structured lesson plan around these identified weaknesses, ensuring that each session is productive and directly addresses the student's challenges. To further support progress, I maintain a student tracker where I document each lesson, adding comments about their performance, homework, and tests. This ongoing assessment allows me to adjust my teaching strategies and ensure continuous improvement.
During our sessions, I aim to create a supportive and encouraging environment, working to alleviate the student's anxiety about completing work. I incorporate palpitation activities at the start of each lesson to engage the student actively and help them ease into the learning process. These activities not only reduce tension but also promote confidence, enabling the student to approach their work without fear. My goal is to make learning a positive and empowering experience, guiding students toward mastering their material while also developing problem-solving skills and overcoming academic hurdles.
Testimonials
Very good, friendly and involved teacher. Her teaching skills are very good, delivering information very clearly and efficiently. She keeps everything organized and has a great evaluating system for the students. Jessica really seems like a down-to-earth and bright person and I really recommended her as a tutor.
Alex, SAT student
I thought Jessica was the definition of perfection. With her way of teaching and her way of understanding. I very much appreciated that she listened to how I wanted to make classes and formed them according to how I like it (being an introduction lesson first then questions, exam questions, after). I also very like how she has her ‘student tracker.’ This allows both me and her to follow my progress. It also allows for me to go back and have all the work I have been doing in one place. This is very helpful as I can use it to prepare for exams. The student tracker also allows for me to see my progress. Something I am looking forward to doing.
Orkidee, IB Mathematics student
I think Jessica was one of the best tutors I have ever had and im so glad I followed her advice and help. The PSAT went great for me and the information she gave me was so useful. I will probably talk to her again for SAT tutoring in May.
