Oxford University - BSc Medicine

Having taught people in the past from a very wide range of abilities, I can also understand that different people engage better with certain learning styles than others. I am therefore happy to teach any student at any ability, regardless of their background, and adapt my teaching style to their needs and preferences. I specialise in teaching BMAT/UCAT and Oxford Medicine Admissions as well as GCSE and A-Level Biology, Chemistry and Maths.

Tutoring Experience

Having come from a humble state school background myself, I am looking to provide genuine insight and advice that I wish I could've imparted to somebody in a similar position to myself when I was in school or sixth form.

I have successfully tutored many students, across a wide variety of STEM subjects (including maths, further maths, and triple science). Every one of my past students went on to either pass and/or significantly improve upon their mock grades in the subject(s) I had tutored them in.

Tutoring Approach

GCSE/A-level – I ask student what topic/area they would like me to help them with at the start of the lesson, then give them a brief overview of the topic by verbally explaining it to them, using a revision guide as a reference. After that, I would spend the remainder of the lesson going through practice questions on the said topic using worksheets.

BMAT – ask the student in advance of the lesson what topic/question type they would like to cover, then prepare a short presentation on how to tackle said question type. Then I would proceed by asking the student to tackle question sets using the techniques I just showed them with the given question type (either through past papers, or through question banks).

Medicine interviews – I have a diary of the questions that I was asked at both of the Oxford colleges I was interviewed at for medicine. Using these questions, I can draw upon this experience and go through strategies of how to tackle these question types, and provide more example questions for students to be able to answer to prepare them for Oxbridge interviews. As far as MMI preparation is concerned, I also still have many preparation documents I made when preparing for my medical interviews, and I can go through each of these to explain the important messages and strategies (such as the STAR approach) to employ when tackling a range of MMI stations. I can also utilise online question banks to provide further practice for interview style questions for both Oxbridge and MMI interviews for medicine applicants.
