Tutoring Experience
I have tutored for five years, preparing students for their GCSE and A Level exams. I primarily teach English Literature up to A Level, French up to A Level, and English Language up to GCSE. I also support students with university applications and teach English as a foreign language.
My previous GCSE students have all either met or exceeded their target grades, and my A Level students have consistently achieved the results required to attend their dream universities. Having been in the first cohort to sit the reformed 9–1 GCSEs, I am particularly familiar with the current specifications for English Literature and Language.
Tutoring Approach
English literature: My sessions often revolve around brainstorming responses to exam questions together, through this developing key skills such as language analysis and essay writing. Other sessions might be dedicated to something my student wants to work on in particular, for example revising context for a specific text.
French: My sessions for French can be fairly varied, depending on what my student feels they need to work on – this may be an hour dedicated to speaking practice, another look at a particularly tricky grammar point, or revision of particular themes for the exam.
English language: For English language, exam practise is key. The GCSE combines lots of different skills, so normally I dedicate a few sessions to each different question in the paper, this way covering language and structure analysis, inference, and creative writing.
