Tutoring Experience

Since January 2018, I have served as a part-time university lecturer at the University of the Witwatersrand, developing, teaching, and assessing literature courses, from Beowulf to contemporary texts. Additionally, I have tutored A-Level English students since September 2022, tailoring support to align with examination criteria.

Earlier, I gained experience tutoring English from preschool to grade 12 (2014-2015) and provided academic writing support as a university consultant (2013-2014). From 2019 to 2021, I worked as a contracted textbook writer, covering English literature topics, including Renaissance poetry and The Handmaid's Tale, and designing exam preparation material.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to A-Level English tutoring is centred on two core elements: developing students' essay-writing skills and enhancing their literary analysis.

First, I guide students in refining their ability to structure responses effectively, focusing on essay techniques, language use, and adherence to A-Level assessment criteria. By working on their written work, we ensure clarity and coherence in their arguments.

Second, I encourage active discussion of literary texts, exploring varied interpretations and critical perspectives. This fosters a deeper understanding of themes, contexts, and techniques, equipping students with the analytical tools necessary for success in exams.
