Tutoring Experience

I have been working in education since 2013, starting as a lead teaching assistant at a London academy to enhance literacy skills. After earning my PGCE from the University of Exeter in 2016, I taught English through the Teach First Leadership Programme, focusing on high school students.

My later roles included Education Manager, independent educational consultant, and admissions tutor, where I supported international students transitioning to schools and universities. In 2021, I returned to full-time teaching and tutoring, specialising in IB English, focusing on exam preparation, literary analysis, and essay writing for both Standard and Higher Level students.

Tutoring Approach

When working with IB English students, I start with an initial discussion to understand their strengths, challenges, and approach to literary analysis. I assess their essay-writing skills, familiarity with IB rubrics, and ability to analyse unseen texts.

Lessons are tailored to IB requirements, with a focus on developing thesis statements, structuring arguments, and understanding literary devices. We work on key elements like commentary writing, comparative analysis, and preparing for internal assessments. I provide personalised feedback, practice exercises, and reading lists to deepen students' understanding of IB texts and themes. Each session ends with a brief recap to reinforce learning, ensuring steady progress towards their IB English goals.
