Tutoring Experience

I have several years of teaching experience in math, science, English, computer science, and test preparation. My first experience with teaching was for a non-profit organization that aimed to help underprivileged and students from low-income backgrounds gain access to the same education opportunities as their peers.

Since then, throughout high school and into my first year of university, I have taught students from an age before they can read to the college level. Over the past year, I have especially focused on tutoring math, computer science, SAT, and guided students with the college admissions process. I took on the opportunity to be a teaching assistant for a second-year college level course, as just a freshman.

I love to teach and my passion for doing so has shown as I have helped students gain admission to top U.S. universities such as Cornell, Northeastern, Georgia Tech, and NYU.

Math and Computer Science Approach

As someone who has had a strong mathematics background for as far as he can remember, I would say that I have mastered the techniques and strategies that allow students to such related fields.

Studying fields like math and computer science is best through mastering the fundamentals. Without a solid understanding of basic concepts and ideas, it is difficult to learn more advanced topics. I like to make sure that my students understand the ins-and-outs of every question they might come across, internalizing all of the details and exceptions, and become confident in their skills.

Once it is clear that the student has a strong foundation, learning math and computer science is a matter of learning to problem-solving. I like to do this through analysis – the question is not only how we do something but also why.

SAT Approach

In my opinion, which is backed by many of my peers, the fastest way to improve one’s scores on the SAT is through practicing… A LOT! “Practice makes perfect” is especially true for the SAT, since the exam is mainly about recognizing patterns, whether it be in reading texts, grammar questions, or math problems.

To understand where we require the most practice, I like to have my students take a practice SAT exam, through which I can assess the topics that need improvement. The improvement stage of learning can be drastically different depending on the topic, as students have varying levels of understanding of all the subjects tested on the SAT.

Our goal is to achieve the highest score we can, and we do that again by… practicing! Once I understand which topics need work for my particular student, I like to personalize lessons around their strengths and weaknesses, focusing on internalization concepts and building strong fundamentals.
