Tutoring Approach
Biology and Chemistry Tuition Approach
When studying for an A-level or GCSE, it is important to be familiar with the specific requirements of the chosen exam board, so I first review the specification and ensure that the student is aware of the topics to be covered. I discuss this with the student in order to assess which areas they feel the most and least secure on. I then use an approach based on talking through concepts with regular question checkpoints to consolidate understanding, past paper questions, and note-taking. I vary my approach to suit the student, so after the first few sessions with one student, I usually settle into a defined routine based on what they find most helpful. I aim to thoroughly cover the syllabus over multiple sessions, and then review topics regularly, while giving the student the chance to direct their own studies as well. Biology and Chemistry are interesting and exciting fields, and I hope to convey this to my students.
Biomedical Sciences Tuition Approach
Biomedical Sciences is a broad and interdisciplinary field, so I would first encourage students to explore a range of topics within the subject and identify where their primary interests lie. I would then help students to interrogate their chosen areas more thoroughly, expanding their knowledge beyond the school syllabus. I would direct students to magazine articles such was New Scientist Live, relevant books, and up-to-date news articles. I would encourage students to write a Personal Statement in a way that reflects their own unique interests, and that demonstrates what action they have taken to pursue deeper understanding. Ultimately, the Personal Statement is a representation of a unique student, and as a tutor, I would take the student’s own work, and refine it to facilitate conveying the relevant information concisely in writing.
