Tutoring Experience

I have had the experience of tutoring a wide range of age groups - from KS2, GCSEs, A-Levels, to university applications and interview preparations. Although I am currently offering Economics and Business Studies lessons, I have taught students a wide range of subjects, including Maths and English. As a volunteer assistant teacher at a secondary school, I have also had the opportunity to help EAL learners grasp a better understanding of complex concepts.

I am also an experienced and appointed mentor to university applicants and have successfully guided students through the application and interview process. I have been a mentor in several access programmes such as, Cambridge Shadowing Scheme and Project access, through which I supported students from disadvantaged backgrounds and helped them earn places at Oxbridge and Russell Group universities.

Tutoring Approach

I usually spend the first lesson learning about the student's goals and conducting a short test to determine the student's current level. I then construct a detailed plan for the lessons and after discussing the proposed plan with the student, make any necessary adjustments. This enables the students to be more engaged during class and ensures that I can meet the student's unique needs.

When teaching Economics and Business Studies, I first make sure they understand the topics that they find especially challenging, and then I go over exam techniques, which are something that many students struggle with. I also found that incorporating a variety of case studies and examples throughout the lesson not only enables students to comprehend how theories are applied in the real world, but it also helps them improve the quality of their essays by allowing them to write more detailed analyses. Lastly, I have found from my previous experience that it is crucial for students to consolidate their knowledge so, after explaining key concepts, I review the topics at the end of each lesson and conduct regular quizzes and prepare exam-style questions.
