Imperial College London - MEng Aeronautical Engineering

I am currently a second-year Aeronautical Engineering student at Imperial College London, boasting more than four years of tutoring experience, with a specialization in Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, and Further Mathematics. My passion extends to web development, cutting-edge technology, and narrowing the educational divide. In response to the pandemic, I co-founded a non-profit charity organization dedicated to offering free mathematics tutoring to underprivileged high school students. Additionally, I have successfully guided a student to elevate their CAIE A-Level Further Mathematics grade from a C to an A*.

Tutoring Experience

Since high school, I started tutoring some juniors during recess time under a voluntary program and realised my passion in inspiring others. Hence, upon graduation I took up part time tutoring role while doing my A-Levels and had the opportunity to educate students from various background and levels, from primary to high school level. I started with physical classes, but eventually shifted to virtual with the concern of pandemic, and also took the benefit of online learning to tutor students that live far away from me, even students from Australia!

Upon completion of A-Levels, some of my juniors and previous IGCSE students approached back to me and ask if I can provide learning support to them , that is how I eventually started to teach A-Level students. Currently, I am tutoring Chinese students in the UK for GCSE/A-Levels.

Throughout my journey, I have helped my students to achieve multiple As & A*s in their final examination , with improvements of at least two grades, particularly for Additional Mathematics (IGCSE) & Further Mathematics (A-Level).

Tutoring Approach

As a student who has just completed my exam recently, I deeply resonate with the mindset of a student – particularly the conditioning for preparing for an exam. Thus, I always focus on building their confidence for exam – not just in terms of knowledge but also mental support.

Academic wise, I am focused on question-based learning from Past Year Papers as I believe the best way to prepare for A-Level & CAIE exams is to get familiar with the marking scheme and question format.

For STEM subjects, normally I will go with an introduction of the chapter or a refresher of the topic if it is an old topic for the first half, then go with topical past year examples for students to reinforce their learning. However, when nearer to the exam I will work on yearly past papers with the students to get them familiar with their exam, but sometimes I will also do chapter-specific recaps if requested by the students.

Normally I will send the materials used before the session so that the students can download or print it out on their own, but during the session I will also share my screen on my iPad for students to follow the materials. I will also upload annotated notes after each session to my shared drive.
