Tutoring Experience

I have taught English and basic Maths on multiple occasions in China, where I lived for 5 years.

This included working in various summer schools across the country. I taught Piano and Drums independently in the UK for two years. I have also worked as a Youth Leader for Christ Church Winchester and as an Activity Camp Leader at a learning organization.

Tutoring Approach

I like to provide exciting and engaging lessons for my students which will help them go above and beyond the syllabus. Taking inspiration from the supervision style teaching of Cambridge, I will encourage them to question, challenge, and think outside of the box in ways that will ensure they stand out in exams.

Economics: A key way I like to teach Economics is to show the real-world significance of the subject matter, using examples from daily life or global current affairs which will enhance the students understanding whilst hopefully increasing their interest in the topics. I would also encourage critical thinking and interrogation of economic concepts, ensuring a deeper grasp of economic issues and what is at stake in them.

Politics: Similarly to Economics, I would continually link modules to real-world events and issues. I would encourage debate and innovative thinking around the topics and ensure they are used to arguing their point passionately and persuasively.

History: I would try to make the content of History alive to the student, ensuring they are interested and engaged in the subject matter. I would ensure they understand the key debates and arguments around the periods they study, as well as encouraging them to develop their own opinions and ideas and be able to argue them coherently and persuasively.

Sociology: I would seek to help the student think ‘sociologically’, developing a critical and unique viewpoint on the social issues that the subject matter covers whilst also ensuring they know the key concepts, debates and thinkers required to ace the exam.
