Tutoring Experience

Since 2018, I've been tutoring students in History and English, and I've helped more than 40 students succeed in their studies. I mainly teach one-on-one, but I also have experience with small groups. My teaching style is flexible, and I can assist with various needs, whether it's quick lessons, coursework feedback, or long-term exam preparation. Notably, I've supported students in navigating the challenging Oxbridge application process, helping them with personal statements, History Aptitude Test prep, and interviews.

I've had the privilege of teaching students from over 15 different countries, which has given me a wide perspective on history education worldwide.

One of my most rewarding experiences was helping a student named YG. When she first came to me, she had limited English skills and struggled with humanities subjects. However, after 18 months of tutoring in history, English, politics, and Oxbridge applications, YG achieved her dream of getting into Cambridge University's Land Economy course. Her success story demonstrates how my adaptable and ambitious tutoring approach can lead to remarkable achievements.

I've also become proficient in using various online platforms to make learning more accessible. Additionally, I have experience teaching non-native English speakers, which has helped me understand the unique challenges they face. Whether you're preparing for exams like MYP, (i)GCSE, IB, A-Level, or SAT, I'll not only help you grasp the historical content but also guide you in presenting your knowledge effectively to meet assessment criteria. We'll work on past-paper questions, create timelines, and analyze sources during our sessions. In class, we'll focus on structuring essays and discussing content. I'll also provide practice questions, which I'll carefully review, offering detailed feedback to help you excel.

When it comes to enhancing your written work, I'll concentrate on improving your essay quality. We'll work on essay structure, historical argumentation, analyzing primary sources, and using secondary historiography persuasively. Many students find it beneficial to submit their work for my evaluation, where I dedicate an hour to provide detailed feedback, offering around five comments per paragraph. If needed, we can arrange video sessions to address any questions or tackle complex sections together.

For those aiming for Oxford or Cambridge (Oxbridge), I've broken down the preparation process into stages:

In Stage I, 'Supercurriculum,' you'll dive into first-year undergraduate reading, source analysis, and critical thinking skills crucial for a competitive Oxbridge application. I'll customize extensive reading lists based on your interests, broadening your academic horizons and strengthening your application.

Stage II, 'Personal Statement,' involves crafting a compelling personal statement that showcases your academic personality. We'll work on creating an original argument for why you're an ideal fit for your chosen course, ensuring your statement is eloquent, persuasive, and rich in content.

In Stage III, 'Entrance Exams,' I'll assist you in preparing for Oxford's History Aptitude Test and any specific entrance exams required by individual Cambridge colleges. This stage includes video lessons to discuss structure and technique, along with thorough written feedback on exercises and past-paper questions completed by you.

Lastly, in Stage IV, 'Interview Practice,' you'll develop the skill of articulating complex, original, and engaging ideas, mastering the art of "thinking out loud." We'll conduct mock interviews and engage in verbal exercises based on real interview scenarios, covering various areas such as source analysis, text analysis, and historical imagination exercises.
