Silanes are compounds that contain silicon and hydrogen atoms. They are used in a variety of applications, including as adhesives, coatings, and sealants. Methoxymethylsilane is an example of a silane that is used as a crosslinking agent in the production of silicone rubber. It has a molecular formula of CH3Si(OCH3)3 and is a clear, colorless liquid with a boiling point of 101-103°C.
Alkanes are hydrocarbons that contain only single bonds between carbon atoms. They are used as fuels and solvents, among other applications. Butane is an example of an alkane that is commonly used as a fuel for lighters and camping stoves. It has a molecular formula of C4H10 and is a colorless gas with a boiling point of -1°C.
In terms of their chemical properties, silanes and alkanes are quite different. Silanes are more reactive than alkanes due to the presence of the silicon atom, which can form strong covalent bonds with other atoms. Alkanes, on the other hand, are relatively unreactive due to the strength of the carbon-carbon and carbon-hydrogen bonds.
