This can lead to a decline in the health and diversity of plant species, which in turn affects the animals that rely on these plants for food and habitat.
In addition, acid deposition can also lead to the mobilisation of toxic metals in the soil, such as aluminium. When these metals are mobilised, they can be taken up by plants or leach into surface waters, where they can be toxic to aquatic life.
In conclusion, Scandinavia's geographical location, combined with the nature of its soil and bedrock, make it particularly vulnerable to the impacts of acid deposition. This environmental issue poses a significant threat to the region's ecosystems and biodiversity.
