Water availability is another crucial factor. If there is not enough water in the soil, the plant may not be able to take up enough water to transport through the xylem. This could lead to water stress and potentially wilting. On the other hand, too much water could lead to waterlogging, which can also harm the plant.
Finally, nutrient levels in the soil can affect xylem and phloem function. If there are not enough nutrients in the soil, the plant may not be able to produce enough sugars for transport by the phloem. Similarly, if there are not enough minerals in the soil, the plant may not be able to transport enough minerals through the xylem. This could affect the plant's growth and development.
