How is energy transferred in a pendulum?

As the pendulum swings upwards towards the other end, the kinetic energy starts to decrease while the potential energy increases. This is because the speed of the pendulum decreases as it climbs higher, and its height from the ground increases. Once again, at the highest point, the pendulum has maximum potential energy and no kinetic energy.

This continuous transfer of energy from potential to kinetic and back again is what keeps the pendulum swinging. However, in reality, some energy is lost due to air resistance and friction at the pivot point. This energy is dissipated as heat, causing the pendulum to eventually slow down and stop unless energy is added to the system. This process of energy transfer in a pendulum is a great example of the conservation of energy principle, which states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transferred or transformed.
