When North Korean forces, backed by the Soviet Union and China, crossed the 38th parallel on 25th June 1950, it marked the beginning of the Korean War. This invasion aimed to unify Korea under communist rule. The United Nations, led by the United States, intervened to support South Korea, pushing the North Korean forces back across the 38th parallel.
