What major conflicts affected Lebanon post-1945?

Post-1945, Lebanon was significantly affected by the Lebanese Civil War (1975-1990) and the 2006 Lebanon War.

The Lebanese Civil War, which lasted from 1975 to 1990, was a multifaceted conflict involving a range of domestic and international actors. The war began as a conflict between a coalition of Christian groups and the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO), but quickly escalated into a full-scale civil war. The conflict was characterised by shifting alliances, foreign interventions, and a complex web of sectarian, political, and ideological tensions. The war resulted in an estimated 120,000 fatalities, a significant number of internally displaced persons, and severe damage to Lebanon's infrastructure and economy.

The 2006 Lebanon War, also known as the July War, was a 34-day military conflict between Hezbollah paramilitary forces and the Israeli military. The war began when Hezbollah militants launched a cross-border raid into Israel, capturing two Israeli soldiers. In response, Israel launched a large-scale military campaign against Hezbollah in Lebanon. The war resulted in significant civilian casualties and widespread destruction of infrastructure, particularly in southern Lebanon. The conflict ended with a United Nations-brokered ceasefire, but left a lasting impact on the region.

In addition to these major conflicts, Lebanon has also been affected by a range of other political and security challenges. These include the ongoing Syrian refugee crisis, which has placed significant strain on Lebanon's resources and infrastructure; political instability and corruption, which have fuelled social unrest and economic challenges; and ongoing tensions with Israel, which have periodically erupted into violence. These issues have further complicated Lebanon's post-war recovery and development efforts.
