Who were the key figures in the Indian independence movement?

The key figures in the Indian independence movement were Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhas Chandra Bose, and Vallabhbhai Patel.

Mahatma Gandhi, also known as the 'Father of the Nation', was the most prominent leader of the Indian independence movement. He advocated for 'Satyagraha' or non-violent resistance as a means to achieve independence. His philosophy of non-violence and civil disobedience influenced many other political leaders worldwide. Gandhi led several nationwide campaigns against British rule, including the Salt March in 1930 and the Quit India Movement in 1942.

Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of independent India, was another key figure in the movement. He was a central figure in Indian politics before and after independence. Nehru was a close associate of Gandhi and played a crucial role in establishing the Indian National Congress as a major political force. His vision of a secular, socialist India continues to shape India's political and social landscape.

Subhas Chandra Bose, also known as Netaji, was a significant figure in the Indian independence movement. He was a radical nationalist who sought to achieve independence through armed struggle. Bose led the Indian National Army (INA) against British forces during World War II. Although his efforts were not successful, they inspired many Indians to fight for their freedom.

Vallabhbhai Patel, popularly known as Sardar Patel, was another key figure in the Indian independence movement. He played a crucial role in the integration of the princely states into the Indian Union after independence. Patel was a strong advocate of unity and was instrumental in the creation of the Indian administrative service.

These leaders, with their distinct ideologies and strategies, played a pivotal role in India's struggle for independence. Their contributions not only led to the end of British rule but also laid the foundation for the world's largest democracy.
