Who were the key leaders during the Mexican Revolution?

Key leaders during the Mexican Revolution included Francisco Madero, Emiliano Zapata, Pancho Villa, and Venustiano Carranza.

Francisco Madero was a significant figure in the early stages of the Mexican Revolution. He was a wealthy landowner who became disillusioned with the dictatorship of Porfirio Díaz. Madero's call for democracy and his Plan of San Luis Potosí sparked the revolution in 1910. He became president in 1911 but was overthrown and killed in a coup led by General Victoriano Huerta in 1913.

Emiliano Zapata was a leading figure in the south of Mexico. He was a champion of agrarian reform and fought for the rights of peasants. His Plan of Ayala called for 'Land and Liberty', demanding land redistribution. Zapata's forces, known as the Zapatistas, were a major revolutionary faction and he remained a key player until his assassination in 1919.

Pancho Villa was another important leader, operating in the north of Mexico. Villa was a charismatic figure who commanded a large force known as the Division of the North. He was known for his bold military tactics and was a key player in the defeat of Huerta's regime in 1914. However, his power waned after a failed attack on the United States in 1916.

Venustiano Carranza was a political leader who became president in 1917. He was initially allied with Villa and Zapata but later turned against them. Carranza's government drafted a new constitution in 1917, which included significant social reforms. However, his presidency was marked by political instability and he was overthrown and killed in 1920.

These leaders, with their differing ideologies and strategies, shaped the course of the Mexican Revolution. Their actions and the alliances and conflicts between them played a crucial role in the struggle for power and the pursuit of social and political change in Mexico.
